Improving Rock Pillar Stability Guidelines Through Detailed Numerical Investigation

چکیده
Abstract Pillar stability guidelines have been presented by numerous authors in the past, based on a combination of empirical observations (mostly visual) from mining applications and simple numerical (elastic or continuum plasticity) models. In many cases, resulting design limits for pillar dimensioning are as universal all rockmass conditions stress regimes. There developments past decades mechanistic classification (brittle spalling, effective rockmass, structural control) mechanism-appropriate modelling metrics. These new tools paradigms behaviour allow modelling-based revision century that still form basis performance critical designs. This paper includes consideration deformation yield (rockmass strength approach), brittle strength, damage where appropriate. presents correlations residual GSI effects Hoek-Brown dilation behaviour. The investigation generating 3D FEM synthetic models with equivalent elastic plastic continuum.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Rock Dynamic Fracture
Rapid development of engineering activities expands through a variety of rock engineering processes such as drilling, blasting, mining and mineral processing. These activities require rock dynamic fracture mechanics method to characterize the rock behavior. Dynamic fracture toughness is an important parameter for the analysis of engineering structures under dynamic loading. Several experimental...
متن کاملPillar Design in the Hard Rock Mines of South Africa
This paper gives an overview of the difficulties associated with the design of hard rock pillars in South African mines. Recent examples of large scale pillar collapses in South Africa suggest that these were caused by weak partings which traversed the pillars. Currently two different methods are used to determine the strength of pillars, namely, empirical equations derived from back analyses o...

Numerical Investigation of Effect of Rock Bolt Angle on Shear Behavior of Rock Bridges
In this work, the effect of rock bolt angle on the shear behavior of Rock Bridges is investigated using the particle flow code in two dimensions (PFC2D) for three different Rock Bridge lengths. Firstly, the calibration of PF2D is performed to reproduce the gypsum sample. Then the numerical models with the dimensions of 100 mm * 100 mm are prepared. The Rock Bridge is created in the middle of th...
